Growing features

Tomato variety Martha is best grown in seedlings. The seeds do not need soaking or special processing; they undergo the necessary procedures before being sold.

The soil should be very light and nutritious. The ideal option is a mixture of turf or garden soil with humus. It is possible to add a small portion of washed river sand. The seeds are sown with a depth of up to 1.5 cm, sprinkled with peat, sprayed with water, and then placed in heat.

After sprouting, the containers are exposed to bright light. Water the seedlings with warm water from a watering can. When the first true leaves unfold on the tomatoes, the plants dive, then they are fed with liquid complex fertilizer.

At the age of 60 days, the seedlings are moved to the greenhouse, they are planted on open beds later, the soil should be completely warmed up. For 1 sq. m you can place 3 tomato bushes.

Plant formation begins immediately after transplanting. It is preferable to keep the bush in 1-2 stems, removing stepchildren above 3 brushes. Watering is moderate; during the season, tomatoes are fed 3-4 times with full complex fertilizer. Tall bushes are tied to supports, and in the future, heavy branches with fruits are also attached to them.

Diseases and pests

Tomatoes of the Marfa variety are resistant to the main diseases of the nightshade: verticillium, fusarium, cladosporium, tobacco mosaic, rootworm nematode. For prevention, it is recommended to disinfect the soil by calcining or spilling a hot solution of potassium permanganate. It is useful to spray planted plants with phytosporin or another drug with an antifungal and antiviral effect.

Young tomatoes are often affected by aphids, whitefly, thrips. Spraying with an industrial insecticide or a decoction of celandine helps from flying insects. An aqueous solution of ammonia will save you from naked slugs, and aphids will be destroyed by frequent washing of plants with warm soapy water.

Hybrid tomato Martha has proven itself well on farms and in private subsidiary plots. It combines well with other varieties, continuing fruiting in conditions in which other tomatoes do not form ovaries.
