Arched greenhouses made of polycarbonate began to enjoy wide popularity among domestic farmers not so long ago.

Only some one and a half to two decades ago, such designs were rarely encountered, whereas today they are actively used not only in home gardens, but also in the agricultural industry.

The advantages of an arched frame

Polycarbonate greenhouses on an arched frame (arches for a greenhouse) have a number of advantages, among which the following can be distinguished:

  • reliability... Such structures are resistant to loads such as snow and wind;
  • easy installation and operation... It will take no more than 3 days for the independent production of frame parts, as well as its installation. More protracted construction is to be done only with the construction of a non-removable structure with the construction of a foundation;
  • acceptable cost... The component parts of the arched greenhouse are relatively inexpensive, which makes this option affordable for summer residents. The construction of such a frame will be much cheaper than the construction of a brick structure, and the price of polycarbonate looks much more attractive than the cost of glass;
  • arched structures are universal... They can be used both for the construction of permanent structures and for collapsible structures. Such greenhouses can be easily enlarged or reduced by adding (subtracting) sections.

Frame options

There are two options for the framework:

  • collapsible;
  • stationary.

The main advantage of collapsible design consists in the fact that it can be easily disassembled if necessary (for storage in the winter in any room of an economic nature) or transfer for installation in another more practical and lighted place.

Disadvantage such a greenhouse consists in the inability to use it in the cold season, since the absence of a foundation causes significant heat loss.

Stationary greenhouses are good because they are more reliable in design and can be used in winter. The disadvantage is that such structures cannot be moved to another more advantageous location on the site.

Reference: after dismantling the greenhouse, for one reason or another, the finished foundation can be used for another structure.

Preparatory measures before construction

Before proceeding with the construction of the greenhouse, you should choose the location of the future structure.

Attention: the quality and quantity of the crop directly depends on the correct choice of place.

It is best to install the structure so that it runs from west to east in length.

In this position, the rays of the sun will warm up the air inside the greenhouse well throughout the day.

You also need to take into account that the structure should not be located in the shade trees, shrubs or any kind of buildings.

Next, you should decide on the type of structure: whether it will be a stationary structure or a portable one.

If it is necessary to build a stationary greenhouse, also consider whether it is expected to be used in the winter season.

To get an arched polycarbonate greenhouse with your own hands, you, in principle, will not need drawings. However, for the construction of a solid and reliable greenhouse, a drawing of the future structure should be drawn up.

In addition, you can develop a diagram showing the exact dimensions of each part of the structure. Experienced builders advise the following sizes of greenhouse buildings:

  • width 2.4 meters;
  • length 4 meters;
  • height 2.4 meters.

With such dimensions, it will be possible to make two beds in the greenhouse, between which there will be a convenient passage.

Foundation for an arched greenhouse

After the place has been chosen and the drawing of the future structure is ready, you can take up the construction of the foundation, the need for which is determined by the nature of the structure itself.

When erecting light greenhouse and temporary seasonal structures, you can apply frame base as a foundation - that will be enough.

Stationary structures must be equipped with one of the following types of foundations:

  • prefabricated tape;
  • monolithic tape;
  • foundation of reinforced concrete blocks.

Further, it will be the stationary design option that will be considered.

The foundation is poured in accordance with the dimensions of the future structure, the best option for which was indicated above.

The depth of the foundation is determined by the climate conditions of a particular area. In warm regions, a sufficient depth of 0.4-0.5 m is required, while in colder regions a depth of at least 0.8 m is required.

The foundation is poured along the perimeter of the entire structure, while the pillow is laid, and the structure is reinforced, which makes it more durable and stable.

For the manufacture of concrete mix use the following proportions: 1 part of cement + 3 parts of crushed stone and sand. The prepared composition is diluted with water, stirring, as a result of which a not too thick solution should be obtained.

Attention: when preparing the solution, it is necessary to ensure that foreign elements, such as, for example, earth, grass and others, do not get into it, as this will lead to a deterioration in the binding properties of concrete.

Installing the frame

Many are interested in the question of what material should be made of polycarbonate arches for greenhouses. So, the assembly polycarbonate arched greenhouse begins with the installation of the frame, which can be made of fittings, PVC pipes, aluminum or steel profiles.

The best option for the construction of the frame - galvanized metal. Before installation, it must be painted to protect the material from corrosion.

First of all, the frame strapping should be welded and installed on the foundation. The harness is attached to the foundation with anchors - this will give the structure additional strength.

Further, along the perimeter and corners of the structure, it is necessary to weld doorways and racks, on top of which the upper trim is welded - arched elements will be installed on it.

To give the coating additional rigidity, the arches should be tied together with a ridge and perpendicular ties.

Possible frame option:

After the installation of the main parts, the structure should be equipped with stiffeners. Also, the greenhouse should be equipped with vents for ventilation.

Installation of polycarbonate

Attention: polycarbonate must be fixed to the frame with the side equipped with a protective film, so that the greenhouse will be reliably protected from ultraviolet radiation.

Cut polycarbonate according to standard sheet sizes to avoid excessive waste.

After cutting the material, the mounting holes are marked, then you can start covering the structure.

Plates are connected to each other using self-tapping screws and special strips.

Polycarbonate sheets needed overlap not less than 20 mm. A sealant is used to process the seams, and the end parts are closed with metal tape.

They begin to cover the structure from the roof and arched ends, then move on to decorating the walls and doors. The corners are equipped with corners made of metal or plastic.

Doors and windows are supplied with fittings. To give tightness to the opening parts, a rubber seal can be installed on them.

Upon completion of the installation of the panels, the ends of the material should glue with perforated self-adhesive tape - this will provide sealing and dust protection of longitudinal polycarbonate cells.

Despite the fact that the construction of an arched polycarbonate greenhouse is a relatively laborious process, this design has gained some success in the circles of farming enthusiasts.
