Nematantus is an ornamental perennial shrub that comes from sunny Brazil.

This plant appeared in the CIS countries quite recently, but thanks to its unusual flowers it managed to win the hearts of flower growers, and it is not surprising, because its species diversity is very great.

This article describes in detail the varieties of nematanthus, detailed characteristics of each species are given.

The following is a description and photo of the Gregarius hypocyrt, also known as the Golden Fish, - the most popular type of dwarf shrub that can often be found among indoor plant lovers. Gregarius looks great in hanging potswhen its branches, like lianas, fall down.

Gregarius got its second name thanks to the bright orange flowers, which will certainly attract attention, which really resemble aquarium fish, standing out favorably against the background of glossy dark green leaves.

The flower is quite whimsical in care: when growing it, you must definitely remember what is necessary for it:

  • soil;
  • humidity;
  • watering;
  • top dressing.

The humidity should match the temperature - the hotter, the higher the humidity.

Gregarius Radicans

Nematantus Gregarius Radikans is one of the subspecies of the Golden Fish. It differs from its progenitor with a long straight stem, which over time begins to slope downward, and dense leaves arranged in pairs. In the photo you can see what this subspecies looks like.

Nematanthus Tropicana is a flower with a thin high branching stem, leaves are glossy, oval in shape with a pointed edge, are located opposite each other. On the reverse side they have a reddish tint. The flowers boast a truly tropical pattern - golden, sometimes brown, stripes on a yellow-orange background. Their shape is also interesting, reminiscent of large jugs.

Tropicana blooms much more abundantly than other representatives of Nematantus., which makes it stand out among them. The photo below shows a flower of this species.

Naked (Glabra)

Hypocyrta Naked - a semi-ample houseplant, with a large number of leaves, which have sinuses. Branches closer to the tops slope downward, almost do not branch. From the axils of the leaves, bright orange flowers emerge, from one to three, the shape of which is often compared to lips folded into a tube, their lower part is slightly swollen. Naked Nematanthus does not bloom profusely, but its leaves are fleshy, frequent. Below the leaves are painted purple. The following is a photo of this type of hypocyrt.

Nematantus Fritsch is one of the largest and rarest representatives of Nematantus. A tall plant, sometimes up to 70 cm. Shoots are thin, dropping down during growth. The leaves are long, with a reddish tint underneath, with downy down. The flowers are bright, pink, in the form of funnels. In the photo you can see what the flower looks like.

Ankle (Longipes)

Nematanthus Ankle-necked is an epiphytic climbing shrub with long, large, light green leaves. Flowers on a long stalk, solitary, colored coral red. Below is a photo of a flower.

White (Albus / Santa Teresa)

Namatanthus White - a plant with large cream-colored tubular flowers, which are crowned with long branching shoots (up to 70 cm in length). The leaves are large, dark green, reddish below. In the photo you can see how the plant looks.

It differs from other species by the aroma that tropical bees flock to.

Small-bristled (Strigillosus)

Nematantus Small-bristled is one of the smallest plant species, only 25 centimeters in height. The flowers are spherical, reddish-orange. Branching shoots with shiny oval leaves. The following is a photo of the subspecies.

Riverside (Fluminensis)

Nematanthus Riverine - climbing plant, growing up the support... At the same time, it has a low growth. The leaves are bright green, red underneath. Funnel-shaped lemon-colored flowers, up to three on one peduncle. The riverside Nemantanus blooms for a long time, from April to September. This flower subspecies can be seen in the photo.

Nematantus Vetstein is an ampelous plant, the long branching stems of which can grow up to one meter in length. The leaves are small, dark green, as if doused with wax. The flowers are orange-red with a touch of yellow. See how this plant looks in the photo.

Coin-leaved (Nummularia)

Nematanthus Monetolistny is an ampelous plant with short, fleshy, rounded leaves that have a light green color. Stem and leaves with fluff. The flowers are bright red, yellowish at the folds. Coin-leaved Nematntus sheds leaves after flowering... In the photo you can see how this view looks like.
