Dill is a popular herb that grows in almost every vegetable garden. Dill contains vitamins B1, B2, C, PP, P, carotene, folic acid, as well as salts of iron, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. Dill can be both beneficial and harmful.

This plant is used for both cooking and medicinal purposes. This article will discuss in detail whether it is possible and necessary to feed pets with dill, such as guinea pigs, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs, rabbits, rats, snails and chickens.

For cats

For full development, cats must have a balanced diet. To do this, the feed should include various greens, including dill. This spicy herb brings invaluable benefits to the animal's body:

  • normalizes bowel function;
  • improves lactation in lactating cats;
  • corrects the work of the genitourinary system;
  • removes sand from the kidneys and bladder;
  • boosts immunity.

Dill should not be given to pregnant cats, as the substances contained in it cause the uterus to contract, which can provoke a miscarriage.

In addition, it should be excluded from the diet if the animal has a violation of the endocrine system. It is best to give dill to cats by mixing it with the main food in a ratio of 1: 5.

It is highly discouraged to feed chinchillas with dill, since these animals should not eat spices. Even a small amount of this herb in the feed can cause severe poisoning of the animal and lead to death.

In order for the duck chicks to gain weight quickly, it is recommended to feed them not only with dry granulated food, but also prepared independently. It is allowed to feed ducklings with greens, including dill, from the first days of life. Dill promotes the rapid growth of ducklings, protects them from diseases and strengthens the skeleton.

Finely crumbled greens are mixed with boiled egg and crushed shells in a ratio of 1: 4 and given to ducklings once a week. It is not recommended to feed chicks with this herb more often, as it can cause intestinal upset and dehydration.

For Achatina snails

Achatina are almost omnivorous, and dill is on the list of foods allowed for them. Any greenery, including this herb, is a source of nutrients for Achatina.

You need to give it to snails 1 time a week, alternating with other feeds. Spread the greens for feeding the clams on a flat dish and remove the excess after feeding.

Dill is a source of vitamins and minerals for chickens, so it must be included in their diet. They begin to give it to chicks on 3-4 days of life.

In order not to cause upset stools and other undesirable consequences, this herb should be added to the menu very carefully. If the chicks develop diarrhea, then the feeding of this grass should be discontinued.

It can be added both to dry food and to a mash. The ratio should be 1: 5. It is recommended to feed chickens with such a mixture no more than 1 time per week.

Greens in the diet of chickens must be mandatory, since it is the main source of nutrients. Dill normalizes the intestines in chickens and strengthens the immune system. It is given fresh in summer, and dried in winter.

Since this herb has a diuretic and laxative effect, you need to feed it to a bird no more than 1 time a week. You can add finely chopped dill to the main feed or give it whole, hanging it over the trough in small bunches.

Rabbits are omnivorous animals and therefore it is allowed to feed them with almost any greenery, including dill. The plant has a very positive effect on the animal's body:

  • normalizes the work of the cardiovascular system;
  • improves the functioning of the genitourinary system;
  • increases the flow of milk during the period of feeding the offspring;
  • promotes the birth of healthy rabbits.

Dill is allowed to start feeding rabbits when they reach six months of age. The norm is 1-2 branches per day. It is better for decorative rabbits to eat withered or dried grass. The norm for them is the same as for ordinary individuals. The benefits of dill are invaluable, and if you do not overfeed rabbits with greens, then there will be no harm to them.

Dogs often do not eat dill because of its specific smell, however, it is necessary to add it to the pet's diet.

Dill normalizes the genitourinary system of the animal and protects it from kidney disease. Do not feed dill to a pet that has endocrine system diseases. The dog should be fed with finely chopped grass 1 time per day, no more than 1 tsp.

Guinea pig

Guinea pigs are animals that are fed with almost any grass. Dill is also a must in the guinea pig's diet, as it:

  • reduces gas formation;
  • improves lactation;
  • normalizes digestion;
  • protects against intestinal infections.

In order not to cause diarrhea in the animal, dill should be included in the diet very carefully and use no more than one branch per 1 feeding. Choose fresh herbs for feeding, as guinea pigs rarely eat withered or dry dill.

From our individual publications, you can also find out if dill can be given to parrots and hamsters.

Dill is very useful for rats. so that it helps the assimilation of protein foods, so it must be in their diet. It is better to offer it fresh to your pet, 1-2 branches every day. It is not recommended to exceed this rate, as overfeeding can cause intestinal upset.

Almost every pet needs a balanced diet, in which greens must be present. When adding dill to the menu, you should remember about the norms and carefully monitor the condition of the pet. In case of any negative changes, it is recommended to exclude this herb from the diet.
